At RDT, we continue to drive technological innovation applied to environmental challenges. We are participating in the European LIFE NEEVE project, an initiative focused on improving air quality in urban environments through the analysis of non-exhaust emissions and the development of advanced modelling and assessment tools.
The project addresses one of the main current challenges in European cities: pollution from traffic-related particulate matter, contributing to a better understanding of its dispersion and to the definition of more effective mitigation strategies.
LIFE NEEVE – Innovation for urban air quality management
Description
LIFE NEEVE aims to advance the understanding and control of non-exhaust emissions in urban environments by combining real-world measurements with advanced predictive models. The project integrates monitoring technologies, data analysis and simulation tools to enhance air quality management and support evidence-based decision-making.
Objectives
The project focuses on:
- Analysing the generation and dispersion of non-exhaust particles in urban environments
- Integrating real-driving and urban pilot data with advanced modelling tools
- Improving simulation capabilities for complex urban scenarios
- Optimising emission measurement and sampling systems
- Defining key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess project performance
- Evaluating the environmental and societal impact of the proposed solutions
RDT’s contribution
RDT contributes to LIFE NEEVE through advanced numerical modelling, data analysis and impact assessment, with a strong focus on urban air quality and particle dispersion.
Key activities include:
Simulation and modelling (CFD)
- CFD-based modelling of non-exhaust particle dispersion in urban environments
- Validation and improvement of dispersion models using real-driving and urban pilot measurement data
- CFD-based analysis and visualisation to support the design and optimal placement of emission sampling systems
KPI definition and impact evaluation
- Contribution to the definition and monitoring of project Key Performance Indicators
- Support for the evaluation of the environmental and societal impacts of LIFE NEEVE outcomes
Through these activities, RDT strengthens the link between experimental measurements and predictive modelling, enabling more informed, data-driven decision-making for urban air quality management.
